Ryan Hedges wants to use the win against Preston North End as a “springboard” after a tough run in the Championship.
It was an important three points after three successive defeats, taking Rovers back into the play-off places.
There is a quick turnaround as John Eustace’s side head to Queens Park Rangers and Hedges is keen to keep building momentum.
“I think performances in the last two or three games have been good but results have not gone our way,” he said.
“Whereas (on Friday) we dug in, got over the line and these can really be used to kick us on for the second half of the season.
“The schedule since probably mid-December has been relentless, but they are the times where you can come away with nine points in a week and that is something we are looking to do.
“Obviously, we need to try and back this up now by going to QPR and then it is West Brom away, who are battling around the play-off positions as well. Every game is a massive game.”
Rovers were written off at the start of the season but have continued to defy expectations to keep up the pace with the play-off pack.
Hedges is determined to keep getting points on the board and sees no reason why Eustace’s men can’t still be up there come the end of the campaign.
“That is where we wanted to be at the start of the season,” the versatile wideman added. “Probably not many people thought it, but in the building we definitely did. We have got 16 games now left to go, why can't we stay where we are?”
There was a big atmosphere at Ewood Park on Friday night, with more than 21,000 supporters in attendance.
Hedges says the supporters gave Rovers a boost against their Lancashire rivals but insisted it was important to keep cools and avoid getting caught up by the emotion of the game.
“The kind of run we have been on after Christmas, it was great to get a win and especially in front of a really good crowd. It really kicked us on, especially in the second half,” he said.
“We all know what derby games are like and we knew they were going to come out and start fast.
“I think we matched it, had some really good opportunities in the first half and could have been two or three up.
“Then, we had been in that position before going into the second half so we knew we had to be focused to get the second goal.
“The best way to win a game is with 11 men on the pitch. You want that aggression and you want that feistiness, especially in a derby game.
“I think that was there to be seen from both sets of players and that makes for a great occasion. But we know the line and thankfully none of us crossed it. I think we all worked hard and put in a real shift.”
Ahead of kick-off against North End, Augustus Kargbo was unveiled as Rovers' latest signing following his permanent move from Italian club Cesena.
Hedges hopes Rovers can get more business done before the deadline and that fresh faces, combined with players returning from injury, can help ensure a strong finish to the campaign.
“You always want quality in the building,” he stated. “You could see there were quite a few young lads the first time on the bench, which is obviously great for them and shows what the Academy is all about and what Blackburn Rovers is all about.
“But if we can get a few more in the door, as well as the players coming back from injury, hopefully we can be a real strong force for the coming end of the season.”
